Connemara Cottages – January 17, 2015

Best things about resort:

Great base for exploring Ireland. Close enough to many attractions to visit in one day. Lovely setting, beautiful scenery. Great management.

Best attractions or restaurants nearby:

Oughterard was only a short car ride away. Quaint town with good restaurants. Cliffs of Moher and Kylemore Abbey.

Review:

My family (5 adults and 1 infant) visited Connemara at the end of December. We stayed in a three bedroom cottage which had plenty of room for all of us. Mary and Kevin, who manage the property were great. Highly recommend this resort.

Do NOT hesitate!! – May 5, 2014

Best things about resort:

Location to day trips, friendly town in Oughterard nearby, gorgeous countryside, responsive manager.

Best attractions or restaurants nearby:

Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands, Brigit’s Garden, Ashford Castle, Kylemore Abbey, Cong Abbey.

Review:

I was hesitant based on old reviews but Mary who manages the property has done a wonderful job. She e-mailed before the trip to help in any way, was there on check in and available by phone call. She gave us great travel tips too. Our unit (3 bedroom) was clean, cozy and what I expected in a country cottage. The sheep and their lambs were grazing throughout the resort and a favorite of ours. We met several members in the guest house where free wifi and a computer was available and all seemed happy with their accommodations. The only negative was the road to the cottages which Mary is working on getting fixed.

Location, Location, Location – April 25, 2014

Best things about resort:

Our cottage had EVERYTHING we needed. All we had to provide was the groceries and the clothes detergent! We even had a sauna! The rooms were large and spacious and very warm and inviting.

Best attractions or restaurants nearby:

Oughterard is minutes away, it a beautiful little town with pubs, shops, grocery stores and the Boat Inn Pub, which we loved. Loved it so much we ate there three nights!

Review:

Excellent place to stay, perfect location, friendly staff, and much to do in the surrounding area. Management took car of us before we even arrived! She called and emailed to prepare us for our stay. She even suggested sightseeing, historical places of interest, live music venues, restarants, pubs, shops, etc. She even had a fire going for us upon arrival, with scones, biscuits and pie waiting on the table!

You are minutes from Galway, Westport, Clifden and more. Close enough to include daytrips, such as the Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle and the Aran Islands. And Dublin is only three hours away by car. We had a great time and look forward to going back! Thank you Connemara Country Cottages!

Authentic country experience in a great location – February 5, 2014

Best things about resort:

This is a great location to explore Connemara, Galway, and parts of Mayo county. The cottages are in the country away from the busyness of Galway city. Mary is an excellent host/site manager. She and her husband, Kevin, do a great job of making sure you are comfortable and that you have what you need. Mary is a great resource in telling you about sites to visit.

Best attractions or restaurants nearby:

Connemara National Park is beautiful with its Twelve Bens, sheep farms, lakes, and beautiful rainbows. Kylemore Abbey is a great place to visit. Leenaun boasts a beautiful waterfall and Ireland’s only fjord. Driving along the coast and visiting the small coastal towns are like no other that we saw in Ireland. Several local sites and the town of Cong was where the Quiet Man movie was filmed. The shop owners in Oughterard are both friendly and helpful. Get some sausage at Finnerty Butcher shop and some tackle (if you are fishing) at Tuck’s Anglers.

Review:

Visitors need to read the resort description and the description of the amenities before complaining about where it is and what is provided. The resort is in the country and offers few amenities. Mary and the resort owners are working hard to upgrade the units and to take care of maintenance issues. Mary has been managing since October of last year. We stayed in the Bowfin cottage. We visited in January and the unit was cold. We built a coal fire each evening when we came in and got the dining/living area warm. Kevin had delivered a bag of coal to the unit so we didn’t have to carry it in the rental car. Even with frequent rain, we got to see everything we hoped to see and more. We had a great Irish experience.

Comfortable, relaxing cottages in a beautiful spot – December 28, 2013

Best things about resort:

The managers of the cottages were terrific! They patiently showed us how to use the peat fire place and provided us with lists of places to go to hear traditional Irish music and restaurant to enjoy local fair.

Best attractions or restaurants nearby:

Fun near by restaurants with yummy food – the Boat House in Oughterard and Moran Oyster Cottage in Clarenbridge. The countryside is beautiful where ever you go.

We had a wonderful time in this beautiful, quiet, relaxing, hide away. It felt like walking back in time with all the modern conveniences of today’s world. It is a charming place with generous and gracious hosts. We stayed a week the 1st week of November and had great food, weather, company, etc.

Wonderful location for touring Ireland – November 3, 2013

Best things about resort:

My husband and I booked the resort to explore Ireland, and explore we did. The area offers many adventures and locations to get the feel of Ireland. The resort was well cared for; the cottage furnished with all needs and served as our home for daily car travels. The resort manager ensured our happiness and was available for questions and assistance.

Best attractions or restaurants nearby:

Galway, Cong and The Quiet Man history; Westport, Clifden; near Aran Islands and the beautiful mountains, green lands, sheep; rock walls and houses. Unbelievable landscapes.

Review:

Personal attention by the resort manager and the lovely cottage that let us enjoy the rural area.

Fabulous Rustic Irish Living – October 31, 2013

Best things about resort:

The location was great only 30 minutes from Galway City and it’s bohemian atmosphere, Kylemore Castle Abbey, Roundstone and Clifden. Castles to see. Pub to mingle with the locals. Fresh local lamb, ambience and very friendly people. And just up the hill from the “Quiet Man Bridge”, from the John Wayne movie of the same name.

Best attractions or restaurants nearby:

Galway City is a bustling small city with free museums, seaport, great food, pubs and shops. The city center is a traffic free open air mall of local flavor. Several castles and castle ruins to explore. The village of Oughterard had numerous shops and stores to wander in and out of.

Review:

We stayed in The Corrib cottage, it was grand. Mary the resort manager met us on our arrival and gave us a tour of the cottage and explained how everything worked. The range (cooker), washer/dryer, dish washer. Sauna. The works. We were even given a lesson on how to start the tradition Irish peat fire in the fireplace. The cottage was very clean, fresh bedding, and room for us all (7 of us). The kitchenware was plentiful, clean and serviceable, The cooking utensils were also plentiful and there were plenty of place settings to feed 7 with enough left over. There was a new computer in the office/guest area and wifi for the techies. We saw sheep being herded back to lower pasture by Border Collies right through our yard. Splendid views of the countryside. Just an outright rustic Irish experience. We’ll be back, it was a grand vacation!
